Purple loosestrife, a few cattails, wispy clouds, and blue sky

I took this picture last week outside of my office, from ground level looking up.  I like the colors, though I do understand that loosestrife is an invasive plant that is choking out native plants, such as cattails.  Apparently it arrived in America in the early 1800s as seeds to be planted in the gardens of early settlers.

Breakfast before Reed's departure

We had a nice breakfast with Reed on Sunday, before his trip to Georgia.  And the pancakes tasted pretty good, even though I forgot to put in the eggs!

Jaimie finishes hiking 40 miles in Kings Canyon NP (Sierras of California)

Jaimie and her college friend Lauren just finished 40 miles of hiking in the Kings Canyon National Park.  They're now on there way north to Yosemite for some more hiking. She writes that she has met lots of nice people and seen some great wildlife, including bears and cubs. Here are a few pictures she emailed to me.
