Thanksgiving 2009 - a wonderful event...

For Laurie and me it was great to have so many here for Thanksgiving. Altogether... 15 1/2. (photos for Saturday's PieGiving will be posted soon, as well.)

It was fun and the food was fantastic. I have posted about 40 images on Zenfolio. Fastest method of reviewing all of them is the slideshow option, with a direct link below:

Or, if you want to go through the pictures one at a time, here's a link for that:

Just got delivery on some new furniture

A great place to buy wood furniture is Country Woods Unfinished Furniture in Raymond, NH. You can finish the furniture yourself or pay an additional charge to have them do the work.

Their Web site is

The two cottage style pieces we purchased are made of maple and we chose to have them finish it with Early American minwax stain and a few coats of lacquer.

I had to drill some custom holes through the back of the TV cabinet for the wires from our receiver and cable box, while Laurie organized the bookcase.

Two turkeys come for a visit

18 1/4 pound and 13 1/4 pound turkeys came for a visit this weekend and are resting comfortably. The larger one is looking forward to doing some outdoor charcoal grilling with me on Thursday!

Laurie and I took a "nature walk" around Great Meadows on Sunday. Here are a few images I liked:

Aspen gallery done (Aishling!)

Aishling highly recommended that Laurie and I visit Aspen during our West2009 trip. Though the town was a bit snooty compared with most of the towns we visited, at least this meant there was a Starbucks. A very nice touch for a day that was in the 20's (on September 30th, no less)!

But seriously, the picture-taking opportunities were excellent, with dramatic and changing skies, and snow flurries as we visited the famous Maroon Bells (first picture below) and also when we reached Independence Pass at over 12,000 ft elevation (picture of the Toyota, below). We were of course pleased that we remembered to bring winter coats, gloves and hats.

Check out the full gallery of 23 images (including larger images of the six here) if you have interest and time, at my zenfolio site here:

Otherwise I hope you enjoy a few favs shown here on the blog.

Colorado/Utah trip - Days 8, 9, 10, 11 galleries done

I have posted four more galleries from our trip (days 8, 9, 10 and 11) on zenfolio with 10 to 20 images in each gallery. Here's the link if you have interest or time:

Below are four images, one of my favorites from each of those four days.

As a brief itinerary:

Day 8 mostly in Canyonlands N.P. for a second day;

Day 9 heading east back into Colorado with Grand Junction being our destination (they have a Red Lobster Restaurant there!);

Day 10 heading into the mountains again with a quick visit to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon of the Gunnison. We spotted this old barn and corral along the dirt access road;

Day 11 Seeing Crested Butte and stopping in Carbondale CO for the night where we found the Red Rock Diner.

Heron and fish: 4-5 seconds from catch to consume!

I used the continuous shutter mode to capture this heron sequence. Ten images in about 4-5 seconds! If I had looked the other was I would have missed the entire transaction. Here's a link to the 10 images on zenfolio:

This young heron was hanging around the pond next to my office last week. Here are four images.
